Waterlilies are symbolic of rebirth because the flowers close at night and come back in the morning. They are also a sign of enlightenment because the flowers are rising out of the mud. We are surrounded by small lakes on the sunshine coast, full of them and seeing them on a morning walk I came home and felt compelled to paint some of these wild, free beauties.
